Glass Mask: Episode 31

Subplots and major plotlines alike fill the entire episode. On top of these developments, we are treated with a fine monologue by Maya and more giggle-worthy Maya-Masumi scenes.
The latest Maya performance is rather well done. It showcases not only Maya’s acting skills but it also emphasizes how she earns a grudging respect from her envious schoolmates. I say kudos to Sanae Kobayashi and the director for this particular play. I’m impressed.
In opposite spectrum of the acting radar, Ayumi makes headlines with her one-woman act as Juliet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Maya, who was forced to watch by Masumi, is utterly afraid of Ayumi’s seeming unreachable talent. When asked to re-enact the play by Tsukikage-sensei, she seems lost at first only to startle everyone with interpretation, including Ayumi who accidentally witnessed this display. Let’s just say by the end of this act, Tsukikage-sensei somehow manipulated the events into having Ayumi and Maya work harder for the Kurenai Tennyou role. Damn manipulative diva. Hmph…. I still lurv her dearly though.
But of course, the highlight of the episode is the blooming affection of Maya to Masumi. Finally, Masumi has the ‘doki-doki’ effect on our heroine. She denies this thoughts though. That’s a no go in her end which is also a valid statement for Masumi’s end. True, he has admitted his ‘feelings’ to himself but he is too dense to notice this change since he is still stuck in that OMG-she-is-a-decade-younger syndrome. And to further confuse the gal with the Purple Rose persona, he instructs his right-hand man, Hijiri (who is undoubtedly in-lurv with him) to carry out the romantic front. Oh, well. At least, there’s a big improvement in their relationship. Let’s just hope Shiori would not be entering the picture anytime soon.
