Hana Yori Dango J-drama: Episode 05

With expectations abound, crashing disappointments more than likely happen. An aggravating antagonist played by an inept actor takes center stage and wreaks havoc to a blooming romance. And so goes the story of Hana Yori Dango’s latest offering.

Someone please call a Villain School. Actor-gal!Sakurako needs serious training, fast. She should call Tsukikage-sensei although I know she’ll turn her down flat. Perhaps she can contact Psycho rose dude and do each other’s hair after each conference. Now if actor-gal had the acting chops to match the cheese-tastic lightning-minus-thunder effect, her itty-bitty knife would have been deliciously menacing and terrifying. Instead, her pitiable pointy-one seems to be only useful in a poke-an-eyeball contest. *shrugs* I do wonder though, if Sakurako’s weapon of choice is supposed to be in proportion to the character’s brain.

While Sakurako irks and annoys audiences alike, this blogger is astounded with a trifling inconsistency. If you recall the previous Tsukasa fights, he somehow manages to walk away unscathed. Yet lo and behold, the oh-so-luscious lips of the pouty-one is shown bloodied and bruised. “Good heavens! Nooo…. anywhere but those yummy kissers. The sacrilege!”, screams the fangirl before realizing the deviation. The mind boggles at this exception. Is this the mysterious phenomenon called the selective bruising effect? A malady of sorts…

Behind every cloud, a silver lining appears. After an hour of really bad Sakurako-acting, the two-faced b*tch is unmasked and I oddly root for the annoying trio’s barrage of insults. The Tsukasa-Tsukushi pair goes lovey-dovey and yours truly giggles like school girl. Then, Hanazawa Rui appears for his screen time and Shun-fangirls scream in unison (myself included). Ahhh, this audience member’s complaint is slightly sated.

Random thought. TokyoJupiter’s Reika asks in her LJ, “How is it that SM-Live action can have almost 50 episodes of transforming moon princess, but I can’t have more than 9 eps of Rui Eitoku Gakuen antics?”. Replace Rui with Tsukasa and I echo the sentiment. o_0
