Hana Yori Dango J-drama: Episode 07

And the verdict for the episode is… The good news: the F4 J-actors perform competently on their given roles. The bad news: The previous statement is only valid if a street brawl is not involved.
True, I tend to turn the switch on to uber-fangirl mode whenever MatsuJun is on screen. But rest assured, I am capable of being objective when acting is involved. Or so I believe. Seriously though, Jun may not be winning any Academy Awards anytime soon but his acting range is rather commendable. He conveys conflicting emotions with a look without even uttering a single word. He can sell moments: may it be dramatic, humorous, or romantic. But he has a major flaw: His utterly laughable combative stance needs SERIOUS overhaul. Oh, and the overhaul also applies to every single member of F4. Their climactic scene at the end is just sad. And when I say sad, I meant pathetic and sucky.
While Tsukasa’s jealous self broods over his fake-ish fighting sequences, Rui takes Tsukushi on a date which can be described in a single word. Awkward. *cringe* The lovely Tsukushi can only babble incoherently as Rui preens demurely at the camera her. And their hilarious bathroom scene does not exactly help their situation either. Rui is just… strange. No wonder Shizuka dumped him. ;p Kudos to Shun’s acting skills, though. He seems to get Rui’s odd personality.
My impressions for the remaining F4 members are significantly upgraded. Soujirou has been upped to sort-of smooth status, especially with his role in facilitating a revenge against Yuki’s fugly ex. As for Akira, he might not be effective as a supposed seducer but he cracks me up. And no, I’m not talking about his sorry fashion sense. Believe it or not, I find him rather amusing.
