Hana Yori Dango J-drama: Episode 09: Finale
Oh, HanaDan, for the past two months you have provided immense pleasure. From the gaudy flocks of sheep to fashion faux pax, from the annoying trio to the now-likeable schizo, cheese-tastic goo freely oozes from the your orifices. Your sigh-inducing, giggle-worthy, and often amusing couplings has brought unreasonably tremendous satisfaction. Yes, you have served this audience member well.
So how did our cast of characters fared from the nine-episode package?
Soujirou. His smooth moves earns an uncharacteristic drooling and semi-respect from this fangirl. Unfortunately, his chivalrous actions triggers a fatal-attraction-esque hormone in the former level-headed Yuuki. Now, why f*ck up Yuuki’s arc? Where’s the sweet and adorable Yuuki we all know and lurv? Bastards…
Akira. I admit. I judged Akira based on his not-so-appealing retro-look as a dismal character. But surprise, surprise. Actor-dude’s comedic instincts greatly complements the utterly hilarious store owner. The audiences expect a relationship to materialize. Alas, the lady’s heart is filled with fond memories of her beloved. *sniff* But never fear, Akira. Resident schizo gal has transferred her affection to you. Or is that not a good thing… With Sakurako’s newly minted personality, I can only wish the best for the two.
Rui. Why must his happy ending be a Shizuka-filled Christmas? Boo… I have nothing against Shizuka but I NEED Rui to be completely enamored with our heroine. Yes, I admit that I carry gigantic TsukasaxTsukushi banner but imagine Rui as he oh-so-beautifully angst over unrequited lurv. Ahhh. What a sight… BTW, my lurv for Shun has considerably grown as the series progressed. Still, I must say that he is much hotter in Densha Otoko. ;p
Tsukasa. He reaches a compromise with Mommy Dearest and takes away the thorns surrounding the Makino household. But mom’s plans to educate his idiotic son to NYC is finally realized. The evil one looked so happy with the result that she momentarily forgot her own persona. She even allows Tsukasa to lock lips with the commoner. The drastic change might be a result of a secret Christmas-chip implant instigated by the under-used Tsubaki.
Tsukushi. While she failed to be crowned as T.O.J. 2005, she wins the hearts of her detractors through her brazen display of Miss Congeniality-style brute. Heck, she even unconsciously pushes Ayano into admitting that everyone is helpless in true lurv. The T.O.J. winner graciously breaks away from the Doumyoji clan.
Yup, all the sap, cheesiness, and romance has truly captivated this fangirl. The J-drama ultimately captures majority of the essence that is Hana Yori Dango. Except for one not-so-stellar episode, the series has been smooth ride. Hmmm. Is this the part where we cue Planetarium?
