Glass Mask: Episode 40

Glass Mask is soap opera in its finest. A young talented heroine in her quest for the role of her life. A mentor appears, then a group of loyal friends, and then rivals. But more importantly, she is soon entangled with romantic conflicts with the rich man and the boy-next-door. She falls for the wrong dude but social standing and a certain woman hinders the relationship. Ahhh. Can’t you blame this viewer for lurving this series too much?
Enter Shiori. Beautiful and elegant but a frail young lady soon-to-be wed to Hayami Masumi. Pffft. She may have done nothing wrong but let the audience hear her grating voice yet this fangirl is already on the anti-Shiori camp. Well, okay. That is already a given once this blogger rooted for the MayaxMasumi pairing. I may never cheer for her but could she at least have a decent, non-irksome voice? It’s bad enough that she’ll become sickeningly pathetic later on. A better seiyuu should be called.
Oh, the green-eyed monster called jealousy appears. Maya confirms the engagement of Masumi with that other woman and shows signs of sadness. But like I often said, that stubborn kid will never admit her feelings to anyone, especially to herself. She has been in denial for years but a few more jolts and this oddball romantic comedy routine of her and Masumi’s need to materialize into a full-blown epic love story soon. I hope.
Oi, oi. New ending theme, and it’s showing spoiler-y images from the later volumes. Nice. Also, Maya’s character design has been subtly adjusted to a mature and adult look. I’m liking it.
