Major: Episode 31

Is this second season made up of a different set of writers? Or does this part of the manga has a not-so-satisfying narrative? Loss of momentum, bad dialogue, and godawful directing are depressingly apparent in this installment. The smooth flow from season one is simply lacking. Heck, even attempts at manipulative appeal is ineffective. Grrr.. Argh.

A brief redefining of teamwork in addition to Goro’s little speech in the first half induces slight eye-rolling yet it presents an almost decent performance. As for the second half… Damn.

Toshiya’s abandonment coupled with Goro’s conflicting emotions should have been a winner. Albeit cliche, how can one go wrong with such an easy heart-tugging? How can you screw up major angst-ing? Alas, the director has other ideas. The disappearance of Toshiya’s parents goes from a significant character history to a mere plot device for Goro’s . As if the torture is not enough, Shimizu sheds angry tears whilst spouting thoughts on self-reflection and winning. Is she hinting of her team’s failure at tournament while Goro chances are still alive? Or is she simply trying to empathize and help her friend? Her words somehow make sense but the tears… *sigh* They should have stayed with the date montage.

WTF is going on? I do not expect this crap from the director responsible for Honey and Clover. Was I wrong to invest too much on this title? I sure hope not.
