One Piece: Episode 169

Since I’ve been without anime for the past week and a half, it is an immense relief to find One Piece amongst the releases I have missed. And there’s nothing like watching my favorite pirate series to start off my New Year.

As if to coincide the theme for fresh beginnings, the latest K-F installment launches a brand new opening theme, Bon Voyage. An array of nicely drawn snippets along side the catchy little tune serve as great introduction for those who have not seen the program. And to pair with the new opening sequence, an Engrish-y theme makes its debut as the title’s ending. This fangirl has enjoyed every track One Piece has thrown her way, except for this. I’m sorry. That was just… sad.

To alleviate the disappointment of the ending theme, audiences are treated to entertaining set of exposition, action, and the funny. The ex-god lurvs his monologue and obliges by giving a brief commentary on the Reject dial. His explanation sets up Wiper’s demonstration of a method for anger management. Anger issues coupled with suicidal tendencies. Heck, his bout with Shura did little to sate his PMS. He locks eyes with Luffy and targets the Straw Hat dude. Wiper shouldn’t be leading a war, really. He should needs a therapist. Fast.

Meanwhile, the not-so-holy one comfortably sits on his throne and blabs about a festival of sorts in the Upper Yard. What’s up with psychotics and festivals? Is there a connection? Now, all Enel has to do is be a momentary bum and wait for the five remaining survivors of his little tournament. Hmmm… Maybe one of the networks will see the Psychotic One’s competition and figure that this is much more entertaining than the homogeneous Survivor seasons of late.
