Bring on the hotties
Mysterious hunters prowl through endless nights. Cloaked in darkness, they slay demons and protect mortals. For centuries, they walk alone in the black…
Until they find redemption…
And true love.
Vague, much? Hee. I can’t resist. I crack myself up. Pardon the cheese, dear reader. The cheestastic nature of Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark Hunter series deeply permeated through this reader’s pores. In simple terms, I have read five novels of the said series in a span of two days. I know I’m sick. Sue me. ;p
Gods and goddesses. Check. Vampires and slayers. Check. Dysfunctional families. Check. The funnies. Check. Explicit sex. Check. Soap-ish angst. Check. Uber-romance. Check. The Dark Hunter series tell tall tales of sickeningly beautiful, soulless vampire-like immortals fighting, well, vampires. Think Angel with uber-powers, complete with the angst. Unlike the soulless Angelus, these Dark Hunters — as they are called — are not without the facilities of moral behaviour. They’re the good guys, of course.
As any good trashy romance novel can be, the series is bombarded with, erm, explicit, erm, intimate encounters. Not that I mind, but I’m simply here for the story. Really. And no one can persuade me from changing my stand. Seriously though, as far as I have read, Kenyon has constructed a fantasy world where gods and goddesses collide with mortals, where demons and vampires exist. She used the Greek mythology as a backdrop and created a mythos of her own. It is surprisingly filled with humor and fast-paced action. It’s not exactly Shakespearean but heck, it’s terribly enjoyable guilty pleasure. I am only slightly embarrassed to admit it. ;p
While the stories intertwine, each novel focuses on a different Dark Hunter and his path to the true love. Albeit formulaic, developing story and character arcs can be noted as the series progress. It somehow exudes an addictive quality which this reader laps favourably. I can only assume that Kenyon has a big following for this work. I’m sure a fan now.
