Pseudo-Death Note list-age

Recently, Stripey has cited a number of tragic deaths which can incite Kleenex shortage. Yes, a well-executed character death scene leaves audiences in emotional turmoil. With yours truly, it means puffy eyes, red nose, a blank stare, and an oh-my-gawd-I-am-sooooo-depressed-I-need-Prozac look. I know I’m still haunted by Hughes and Fulle’s departure. Unfortunately, some death scenes are just, well, dead. Sorry, I can’t resist. But the worst are the ones in semi-death and comes back to life, sometimes, again and again. These individuals have the tenacity to come back and annoy. Like a bug, they can never be killed off the series. Argh. If I were to borrow Raito’s notebook, this is the list whose names I will definitely write down so that the characters can go away and rest. Permanently.

  • Gauln. (Full Metal Panic) He has been shot, maimed, and bombed but he still comes back. When will he ever stop? Unless, of course, Sousuke finished him off in the Second Raid. I haven’t seen the sequel so please, I beg readers NOT to disclose information. I want to be spoiler-free. But if Sousuke indeed succeeded in killing the S.O.B., I will be eternally grateful.
  • Haruka. (Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien) Yes, I know she was only in a coma yet I would’ve pulled the plug on her. I understand the sympathetic quality to her character. I truly do but she is so darn, irritating. Boo-hoo. She sleeps for the longest time and expects everything stays the same. Puh-lease. Well, I guess I don’t understand that quality after all. At least, she moved on. Although for a truly happy ending in KimiNozo, I would’ve like Haruka go bye-bye and Takayuki in his room, castrated.
  • Dragon Ball Z. Oh, where do I start? Hee. Admittedly, I used to love watching Dragon Ball with my dad when I was a kid. But then, I grew up and my anime appreciation pseudo-matured. Goku dies and then comes back and then dies and comes back again. Rinse and repeat. Gazillion times.
  • Naraku. (Inuyasha) Hack him, burn him, slice him. He refuses to die. But then again, the fault lies on Rumiko-sensei. As much as I lurv most of her works, she has the tendency to lose steam in latter chapters of her series. And her Inuyasha antagonist, Naraku, only becomes a fixture whose aim is to irk and to harass both her protagonists and readers alike.
  • Kazuki. (Maburaho) *gasp* I finished through Maburaho and lived. And so did Kazuki. In fairness, I enjoyed every moment of complaining and bashing whilst blogging the episodes. But Kazuki’s non-vanished state was an utter disappointment. If he bid adieu, I can almost relish the angst that will emanate from Yuuna. And not because this will make good drama, but only silence pink-haired gal. Oooh, maybe then she’ll commit seppuku.
  • Sasuke. (Naruto) Back to my Naruto blogging days, I’ve been vocal of my intense, and I mean, intense dislike of the requisite genius/rival to the shounen hero. Initially, Sasuke had been understandably grumpy with his background and such. But he powered-up. So did Naruto, And the inevitable green-eyed monster appeared. Let me tell you, green does not exactly suit him. Naruto shouldn’t have revived him in after the battle with Haku. You know. It’s better to root them out in the early stages…
  • Suguru Misato (Mahoromatic 2) Erm, did he survive the second season? I think he did, didn’t he? I’m a bit lost. Anyhow, if he died at the end of the series, at least he wouldn’t be haunted by the knowledge that the second season was fucked up. As much as liked the character, a mercy killing is a must. It is kindness, really.
  • Mansairaku and Hikaru. (Otogizoushi). Okay, Sai did go poof after the Tokyo arc, but it was the end of the Heian arc which mattered most. To me anyway. If the tragic couple burned into flames to end the series, it would’ve been a superior material. Yep, the Tokyo arc shouldn’t have been animated at all.
  • Midori. (Midori no Hibi) As with Haruka and Yuuna, Midori is included in my not-so-favorite heroine list. It doesn’t help that I’ve been rooting for Ayase all along. Her strange attachment to Seiji always have me thinking of a a hand job joke gone terribly wrong. *shakes head* And for that crass thought alone, I am disenchanted with the gal.

Is this post reeking of too much negativity? Yes, it is. But mentally killing off anime character is great stress-reliever after a hellish day at work. Give it a try. Seriously.
