Black Lagoon: Episode 04-05

The tranquil sea cloaks hidden lores. A few catch a glimpse of its dark past yet fail to uncover the depth of its shadows.
A new mission prompts Lagoon Inc. into a salvage operation. Levi teams up with the relatively inexperienced Rock as they dive for a prized painting. The trip down the submarine wreck exposes not only a watery grave but also a flash to Levi’s psyche.
Levi’s conversation with Rock strips away a layer of her carefree facade; She bares the unfeeling eyes of a killer. Scarred by harsh youth, she perceives society in black and white. To her, sentimentality is for fools. Only power and money govern her narrow world.
While the unlikely pair sojourns to a peculiar discussion, unexpected company disrupts the still waters. Skinheads barge into the wreckage and retrieve the Nazi art. The Black Lagoon crew fails plan A. Plan B will commence shortly, perhaps under a metaphoric red-tinged moon.
Black Lagoon oozes action and drama, without breaking a sweat. The point-counterpoint between Levi, the cynic, and Rock, the idealist, spur intellectual stimulation and lay ground for character analysis. The U-1234 flashback serves an excellent parallel for their conversation; opposing principles, neither one truly completely valid.
Bah. Maybe my theorizing is simply a stretch. Maybe a cigar is just a cigar. Maybe this is just an action show. Then again, picking apart Levi and Rock’s mind is a delectable pastime.
