Noein: Episode 22

SPOILER ALERT. Avert your eyes if you have not seen this episode. I mean it.
Noein is about connection.
Yuu finds his strength in Haruka; Haruka relies on Yuu. Miho freed Atori from self-destruction; Atori repays her by extending his hand. Isami and Ai lost parts of their flesh; They reached for each other, and they become whole again.
Five friends make a circle. If one let go, the others crumble. Noein shows Haruka a future where this fragile bond breaks. Instead of succumbing to Noein’s manipulation, Haruka completes the circle by calling upon on Yuu. A chain reaction overturns a future of misery.
Remember watching Star Wars’ “I’m your father.” bit for the first time. How about that Buffy season two finale where you remain unblinking from staring at the TV screen? Maybe you have seen the twenty-fourth episode of Fantastic Children. The one with the Thoma uber-revelation.
Remember a time when you quietly sit still even as the credits roll. It is a ZOMFG-moment but words temporarily escape you. A glaze look covers your eyes. You do not hear the phone ringing, or the doorbell chiming. It is as if your brain is working too fast while the rest of your body tries to catch up.
Yes, Noein’s antepenultimate episode manages to elicit that rare feeling.
Oh. My. Gawd. How bloody brilliant. This was some friggin’ great television.
Whew. I had to let it out.
Nitpicks will come later. After I return to normal, maybe I’ll see this objectively.
