>>The manga is okay but the anime feels a lot nicer with Ritsuko Okazaki’s soundtrack. That Piano version of Serenade was an absolute tear-jerker.

I have to agree somewhat with that sentiment. I remember watching and re-watching the anime everyday for months on end. A lot of it had to do with the music.

I bought the two soundtrack CDs but neither one of them had the original BGM from the anime. I don't want to get into the hardships and terrors I endured trying to acquire that BGM CD. Eventually I found out it was only made available with a limited release of a Furuba DVD box set in Japan.

When I heard that Ritsuko Okazaki had passed away-- I didn't find out until a year later --- I actually cried. The reason why Furuba the anime transcended an already outstanding manga was due to Ms Okazaki period.

To show how wonderful this woman was, the reason why I was pulled hip-deep into anime to begin with was also due to another series she was in involved with; Love Hina.

Say what you want about Ken Akamatsu or harem anime in general. However, there was a reason why Love Hina the anime is still considered a classic. Even if the series seems dated and other shows have done the shtick better; it still stands out due to the soundtrack. I recommend seeking out the first Love Hina OST and/or the Ritsuko Okazaki Collection of Love Hina songs.

For those who can't, or won't understand why Love Hina the anime was thought of so highly may understand why it exploded the way it did by listening to the CDs.

Ritsuko Okazaki, kind of reminds of Carole King actually. That is if she was born 40 years later in Japan. Her music is like beautiful, early afternoon sunshine after a summer rain; warm, bittersweet and soothing...

>>Fruits Basket fans are scary.

Oh, that's nothing. Wait till you delve into LJ. =D

>>I mean I used to like this series and then something happened a long the way that made me lose interest in it.

I was miffed with the series for more than a year (or maybe two). But these latest chapters make me want to believe that it'll turn out alright after all. I hope we have a full closure. More exposition, please.

>>This may sound like a sacrilege but I am actually more fan of the anime than the manga. The manga is okay but the anime feels a lot nicer with Ritsuko Okazaki’s soundtrack.

Simply put, Furuba's music moves me. I really, really, really love how music became a subtle part of the story telling.
