Daily bits

I don’t know whether to be amused or to be irked by Entertainment Weekly’s review on the Fullmetal Alchemist movie.

Here’s the thing about anime: It’s not about story, it’s about emotion, getting you to feel what the characters are feeling. Watching Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa — a feature spin-off from the cult-hit series that airs on Cartoon Network — don’t expect it to make much sense. You’ll never really know why it’s set in post-WWI Germany and the mysterious realm called Shamballa, or why the lead is a limbless orphan whose brother’s soul inhabits a suit of armor (sometimes). Just go with it.

While it tries to give the FMA movie a certain leeway, it’s plain ridiculous to cook up an oversimplified observation.
