Rumbling hearts and rolling eyeballs

Unconfirmed reports of a new Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (KgNE) adaptation waits on the wings. This time, the popular Haruka takes center stage. Comatose gal gets to keep Takayuki, I suppose. Good luck on her.
Held sacred by a large sector of the anime fandom, KgNE ranks as one of the top favorites as seen in major networks such as AnimeNfo. The fandom met the rumors of the remake with the combination of excitement and speculation. For yours truly, the news elicits a different sort of reaction. Fear and dread immediately springs to mind. After witnessing the MitsukixTakayuki resolution, I thought it was the end for the uber-angsty soap.
Ahhh. But no. The plot thickens.
In case you are wondering, dear reader, my initial response to KgNE is a variety of actions. It made me profanely curse worthy of a sailor, throw a rockstar fit, and laugh like a maniac. The result pushed this blogger into poking my very pretty eyeballs.
It is an absurdly negative reaction. But I concede it was — still is — a strong one, nonetheless. Maybe there is more to this than I care to admit. In hopes of pinning down the source of irritation, I have taken the liberty of randomly list notes on KgNE. (I like lists!)
Haruka’s comatose status resembles an extremely bad K-drama plot.
While relatively new in the anime scene, this plot device is not so new in the soap world. It does not impress me, thankyouverymuch. Although I would give the tip of my left pinkie to have the anime see through a “true” Kdrama soap act and kill off one of the characters, preferably Takayuki or possibly Haruka.
Resident lovah-boy needs to grow a backbone.
I nominate Takayuki to be a resident of Oz for a few months. No, not the Oz at end of the yellow brick road but the prison. Think about it. At the end of the experiment, he will either grow a tough pseudo-manly man stance or be somebody else’s bitch. Won’t it be a win-win situation?
Haruka’s naiveté annoys me so.
Maybe it’s called being dense. I mean, how can you be so oblivious to your best friend’s feelings? Or even her boyfriend’s feelings? It took a direct hit before she realizes that she wasn’t on Takayuki’s number one list. True, she has it hard with coma thing-y. But sleeping is much easier than living.
Akane is an ‘effing hypocrite.
What is it about Takayuki that attracts females and makes them lose their minds? Akane lusts after her sister’s boyfriend and gets upset when blue-haired gal boinks the dude. Hah, I’m miffed that no one berates her.
Mitzuki takes the brunt of all these unfortunate circumstance and gets no respect.
Oh, come on. Blue-haired gal sacrificed gazillion things in her life in order to save Takayuki from his angst. She let go of her elite swimming skills. She accepted to play the villain (the other woman). Heck, she boinked the dude into living. Poor gal.
In short, to me, KgNE is like a K-drama featuring a spineless bastard, an annoying comatose patient, and a misunderstood heroine. Hmmm… That pretty much covers it.
I might be rough on KgNE but it’s a series I love to hate. It riles me up in a semi-good natured way. The plot and characters seem to beg for it. And I’m utterly fascinated and stumped at the hatred aimed at Mitzuki. In her own nekked way, the gal snapped the dude into living, right? Plus, she had dibs on him first.
While I have loads of opinion regarding the show, I don’t think I have the stamina for another round. I know, I’ll be irritated and say mean things that I shouldn’t say. Nope, I don’t have the strength or patience. So if the reports of a Haruka route holds true, I’ll most likely pass.
Unless, of course, they’ll kill off Takayuki.
