When I saw that Naruto was getting an award for “excellence,” my heart stopped. I died inside. Anime and manga are finally getting recognition in the US thanks to how much the next generation is spending on it, and look what they choose to recognize as the “pinnacle” of artistic achievement. What is, by far, the most cliched, popular piece of crap on the market.

It’s like giving an award to the show “American Idol.”

Or like giving an Oscar to “Old School.”

Both of those are very entertaining, but awarding them? Give it to something deserving of the title of art.
