Hana Yori Dango J-Drama S2: Episode 03

The journey towards HanaDan-dom was a relatively simple one. My views on pure ’shipping were fairly consistent on the manga, the anime, the Tawainese drama, and the first season of the Japanese drama. Then, 2007 came.

While my mind carries a gigantic banner of TsukushixTsukasa, a section of my brain seems to create small flyers of TsukushixRui.

My loyalty is crumbling. Ohnoes.

Is the reign of His Most Idiotic One slowly lapsing behind Rui? Ohnoes.

Perhaps, the luscious MatsuJun is playing an ass to a T that Shun’s sensitive Rui is garnering momentum. Again. Ohnoes.

In a heart-wrenching moment, Tsukushi formally breaks off her relationship to Tsukasa. No tantrums. No flared tempers. No messy crying. Tsukushi bows out with grace and dignity. Tsukasa quietly accepts. It is a perfect scene. Or was. Until the director cues Hiki’s Flavor of Life. I have nothing against the song. In fact, I love it enough to sing along with the track. But director dear, would you please quit with the over-use of music? Or if you are bound to use, please make it subtle. End of sermon.

So, yeah. Our dear director ruins the moment between the not-so-doomed lovers. Tsukushi walks off and leaves Tsukasa behind. Meanwhile, Rui, waiting in the background, stalks the pair. When he spies Tsukushi trudging along the road, he almost goes after her. Unfortunately, he is slightly weird; he changes his mind.

Despite Rui’s cowardly response to the fight-or-flight scenario, he wins over the heart of this sometimes-fickle-blogger with the look he gave to the heroine. You know, The Look. The one where the leading man cues audiences that he has fallen in-love with the lady. Sadly, Rui ain’t the leading man. Awww.

Right after the break-up and angsting, Tsukasa resigns to officially accept his engagement to Shigeru. Ah, but there is a twist. During the Doumyouji-Ogawara formal dinner, Nishida, Mommy D’s man Friday, reveals his omniscient abilities. With a sleight of hand, he delivers Tsukasa a hastily written message: Tsukushi is being rushed to the ER. And of course, we all know what happens next.

P.S. Akira’s mom is way beyond creepy.
